Warning Signs of Timeshare Exit Companies
If you're stuck in a timeshare and starting to look for a way out, you'll quickly come across companies claiming they can cancel your timeshare fast—for a steep fee upfront. They call themselves “exit companies.” Don’t fall for it. These are sales outfits, not law firms. And in many cases, hiring one is just trading one scam for another.
Here’s what you need to know before you hand over another dollar.
Timeshare exit companies are usually middlemen. They promise fast, guaranteed results and claim to have “insider relationships” or “special techniques” for getting out of contracts. What they don’t tell you is that most of them can’t legally represent you.
Worse yet, these companies have been known to just take your money and disappear—or quietly farm your case out to a lawyer anyway, while pocketing a huge markup for doing nothing.
1. They Demand Upfront Payment: If someone asks for thousands of dollars before lifting a finger, that’s a red flag. Lawyers are bound by ethics rules. Exit companies aren’t. At Connor Law, we offer flat fees and, in most cases, refund you if we can’t cancel your timeshare.
2. They “Guarantee” Results: There are no guarantees in law. Every timeshare situation is different. Anyone who promises 100% success before seeing your contract is either lying or clueless.
3. They Won’t Explain Their Process: Real lawyers are transparent. If a company can’t clearly explain how they work, what it costs, and who’s actually handling your case, walk away.
4. They Use High-Pressure Sales Tactics: If the pitch sounds just like the timeshare presentation that got you into this mess—limited-time offers, urgency, guilt trips—that’s not a good sign. You don’t need more sales pressure. You need legal help.
5. They Contact You Out of the Blue: If someone calls, emails, or sends you a flyer out of nowhere offering to buy your timeshare or “help you exit,” assume it’s a scam. Good lawyers don’t cold-call. You contact them.
